Remixing Fashion-Lesson 101

What Is “Remixing” Fashion?
Let’s clarify the lingo, “remixing”  fashion is basically another term for mixing-and-matching your clothes to use the same pieces to create a variety of different outfits.
I really think it is crucial to learn the art of remixing, so that you can truly get the most of your wardrobe and not have to invest in so many pieces, season after season.

Are you in a major fashion rut?  Now is the time to just experiment.  Don’t take a garment at face value.  Don’t disregard an item because it’s too baggy or too long.  Play around with clothes and see if you can make them work for different scenarios.

Last week I dumped everything out of my closet that no longer fits or is now out of style and has no hope of a remix any time soon.  UGH.  I’ve been sorting my closet by items I like, but don’t wear very often.  If a “sorta like” item hasn’t been worn recently, I’m sending it on its merry way to a thrift store.  Why keep it around?
I broke out my remaining items into 5 categories so I would be able to remix in an easier flow.
  • Casual
  • Sophisticated
  • Casual
  • Feminine
  • Dressy
When I talk about remixing clothes, I’m not even talking about crazy things like using dresses as skirts.  I’m talking about simple things like belting something a different way or wearing it on top or under something we never thought possible.  Sometimes we have such a limited view of a garment thinking it can only be worn one way.  We have more control of the clothes than we think!
3 Things Needed to Learn For Remixing:
  • Be able to reimagine garments and not just take them as is.
  • Learn to shop for pieces that could be versatile.
  • Add the right pieces that would serve as building blocks to create foundation for mixing and matching.
WOW.  Right?  It’s amazing what subtle changes like cuffing your pants or doing a little tucking can do for your outfit.
Most of the clothing talked about are standard pieces that most of you probably have sitting in your closet right now.  Wearing them by themselves can be pretty boring – learning how to put them together and creating different interesting looks is how you express your personality through your clothing and have fun with your clothes!
As you can tell, there are a LOT of options you can use to make a garment work for you!  Seriously ladies get out of the baggy sweatshirts and jeans.
