Fashion Plait

“Skinny turbans are a stylish way to keep hair off your face.” —Jeffrey Paul, celebrity hairstylist.

Spritz a texturizing spray onto clean, dry hair for texture and hold (try Alterna Summer Hair Rx Ocean Waves Texturizing Spray, $20,

Pull hair to one side of your neck and braid it over your shoulder until you’re one inch from the ends, then secure with an elastic band. (For hair that’s shoulder-length or shorter, gather hair into a side ponytail instead.)

Pull a turban-style wrap over your head and around your neck; push it up so it lies along your hairline (shown: L.Erickson USA Slide Interlock Turban, $38, Gently tug each side of the braid to loosen it; the more undone it is, the cooler it will look. This summer’s all about natural hair styles.

This will give your hair better grip and help the barrette stay put.Create a side part (using the highest point of one eyebrow as a guide), and sweep the front of your hair across your forehead toward the side you teased.Gather hair and clip it into a barrette at eye level (shown: Evita Peroni “Vernie” Clip, $19, Finish with hairspray (try V05 Perfect Hold Styling Hairspray, $2, at drugstores).
Windblown Waves

Flip back up, part your hair down the middle, and wrap random two-inch sections of hair from all over your head around a one-and-a-half-inch curling iron.

Hold each section for a few seconds and release, and then gently pull at the ends to loosen the waves.

Next, take one-inch sections of hair from the front of your hairline and twist from roots to ends. Secure together with a few bobby pins at the back of your crown.

Coiled Chignon
“Try this for a more modern spin on a classic ballerina bun.” —Miok
Apply a quarter-size dollop of texturizing pomade to clean, dry, straightened hair (try Matrix Design Pulse Beach Clay Strong Deconstructing Mud, $20, at salons). Sweep hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck and secure with an elastic band.Separate the ponytail into two sections and tightly twist each from roots to ends. There’s nothing wrong with sporting a ponytail, but the problem is when it’s the exact same ponytail you’ve been wearing since elementary school. There’s nothing more outdated than wearing the same look for years.

Try something new because it sure beats pulling your hair back into a regular ponytail with an elastic every day.
